The play Romeo and Juliet was written in about 1595 and first performed at that time. It was first published in 1597. It was based on the poem Romeus and Juliet by Arthur Brooke, itself based on someone else's story, which was also based on someone else's story and so on.

The play has inspired numerous operas, symphonic poems, musicals, ballets, movies, parodies, send-ups, and knock-offs.

The main facts about the characters are these: Romeo: Born in Verona, only son of Montague. Juliet: also from Verona, only daughter of Capulet. Montague and Capulet hate each other. Romeo and Juliet love each other.

Lines like "My only love sprung from my only hate!" show that their initial reaction is that they will have an internal conflict about loving "a loathéd enemy". But actually it turns out that this is not a problem, as we find out as early as Act 2 Scene 2, where Juliet says that if Romeo will "be but sworn my love" she will no longer be a Capulet. The love takes first place and the family loyalty is a distant second.

That they are in love but their families are enemies and that this will pose a problem has already been established by the prologue. These lines add nothing new.
