PROS:
-Encouragement of personal growth and development of social skills, grooming, and confidence.
-Some systems offer scholarship money to the winners.
-Networking and making new friendships.
CONS:
-There is a perception that only "beautiful" women win a pageant. Fortunately, this is not entirely true. Scoring is typically based on several different categories: Confidence, Attire, Modeling, Interview, and lastly Beauty. Having made note of this, one can clearly see that often it's NOT just beauty that wins the pageant. Throughout the years, we've all scratched our heads at the results of Miss America (and other system's winners) and wondered "How did this girl win, she wasn't the prettiest?" Now realizing that it's a combination of many categories that actually select the winner, it's easy to ascertain how a competition can easily be won by a contestant who may not exactly fall into the niche of "classic" beauty.
Having said this, now this "con" now becomes a "pro"
