Watching Henry V should disprove this theory quite handily.
Shakespeare's plays contain both heroes and heroines. Shakespeare is said to not have heroes in his comedies because of the significant role the lead female characters (like Rosalind or Viola) play. However, in histories like Henry V or Henry VI Part I, King Henry V and Talbot are clearly heroes. In the tragedies as well, characters like Lear and Othello are "tragic heroes". In one critic's opinion, one thing Shakespeare aimed for in his comedies was to honor the qualities of Queen Elizabeth. Whichever critic had this idea has forgotten that Queen Elizabeth died when Shakespeare was in the middle of his writing career and that he wrote such heroic female parts as Isabella, Helena, Hermione, Paulina and Imogen after her death.
Shakespeare's works often feature strong heroines who drive the plot and challenge societal norms, reflecting the complexities of human experience and gender roles. These female characters, such as Portia, Beatrice, and Juliet, exhibit intelligence, wit, and agency, often taking on roles that subvert traditional expectations. While male characters are present, the prominence and depth of the heroines highlight Shakespeare's exploration of femininity and the struggles women faced in a patriarchal society. This focus allows for rich character development and commentary on love, power, and identity.
They are both tragic heroes.
There are three 17th century accounts of Shakespeare poaching on the estate of Thomas Lucy. Thomas Caryle refers to it in his book, LECTURES ON HEROES. There is no sound proof that the stories are true.
Hamnet shakespeare was the only son of William shakespeare. Susanna Hall and Judith quiney are the daughters of William shakespeare

Shakespeare's heroines were his female characters.

My heroes and heroines are the people who helped me in times of need and when I hit rock bottom in life :) However, in books.... I admire Lucy in Narnia..... who are your heroes?
No. I believe some heroines may be overrated, but there are many male heroes that are overrated as well. It is wonderful that women and girls have the option and empowerment to look up to or be heroines.
