Character Traits
Kind: The main character is a very kind person in the story for many different reasons. For example in one of the quotes it says "I sat at the counter, leaving the empty tables free for other customers that might come in". This means that he actually cares about other customers, which is one of the reasons he leaves the tables empty for them to sit. Another reason why he is kind is because he cooks for other people in the restaurant, and also for himself too, even though he does not work there.
Smart: This character is also very smart because he was actually cooking for the customers and ran the business while no one was working, even-though he wasn't working at the restaurant but was only a customer. To run a whole business by your self takes a lot of effort and to be smart.
Decisive: At the same time the character is also very decisive because he asked for a minute to choose between the breakfast special or the cheese omelet so he ended up with the omelet.
Setting
The restaurant is most likely a family run business by a short man named Javier, with a very appealing and "old-fashioned" interior. As hinted by the title, the story takes place in the mourning, breakfast time hours. The time and place are very important because they represent a very accepting and homely theme. This also signifies responsibility for the main character because he had to run the restaurant after Javiers deportation due to the cops.
Theme
The theme of the story is to accept faith and face whatever problem comes towards you, and to make the best of any situation even if it's a negative or positive one. Another theme would be individuality in the society, for example how the main character was by him self in such a tight situation where he had to take orders, cook and serve for the guests and he was all by him self. And also he had nothing to do with the restaurant he was only a customer.
