Judith was. Susannah may have been. Being unable to read or write does not prevent someone from having complex skills in speech and listening. It is an index of opportunity, not of intellect or social acuity.
School records in the area at the time were lost, so it is not known if his children attended school. However, it is known that Susanna, his eldest daughter, could sign her name but Judith, his youngest daughter, signed a mark instead of her name twice.
This implies that Susanna had some degree of education, but Judith didn't. It is not known if Hamnet was educated but many believe he completed lower school before his death - which was the norm.
We do not have any letters or other documents of Anne Hathaway or any of Shakespeare's children which would put this issue beyond doubt. The signatures of Susanna and Judith suggest that Susanna could write but Judith could not: Susanna signed her name but Judith made a mark. About Anne or Hamnet we have no information which we could use to speculate about whether they could write or not.
Anne Hathaway was seen to be illiterate, which was common for an Elizabethan housewife. However, we may have expected something different for England's most famous playwrights spouse. In regard to their relationship, there isn't much to be known or said which could determine her literacy. They married soon after she fell pregnant, William being 18 and Anne being 26. Also that they often lived apart and that he only willed her his "second-best bed".
Shakespeare's two daughters were also illiterate. And his only son died at the age of 11, during the plague, and there's not much to be known of him. His cause of death was unknown and its also not clear whether his father attended his funeral. He would have been to attend a grammar school where he would have learnt to read, write and would have mastered Latin. just as his father had been said to have accomplished. This is the only evidence to prove he actually was literate compared to his illiterate parents, siblings and ancestors. his attendance to Stratford grammar is a key fact to prove against "anti - Stratfordian '' conspiracies.
It is therefore viewed that his wife and children were illiterate, and treated commonly as Elizabethan women.
Both of Shakespeare's parents were illterate. When Shakespeare had kids, they were also unable to read and write.
Susanna certainly could. She was known for her wit and learning. One assumes that Judith could as well.

Illiterate
Illiterate is usually an adjective, and in this sense does not have a plural form. The noun for illiterate is illiteracy, for which the plural can be illiteracies, but it is awkward. Illiterate is sometimes used as a noun to describe an illiterate person, in which case the plural would be illiterates, e.g. as in the insult, "You are a bunch of illiterates!"

As of 2020, around 17% (nearly 1 in 5) of the world's population is considered functionally illiterate, meaning they lack basic reading and writing skills. This amounts to approximately 773 million people who struggle with literacy. The issue is more pronounced in certain regions, with higher illiteracy rates in parts of Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East.
In third world countries, educational systems are poor and many citizens are illiterate. An illiterate person is one who can't read.
