Many different ways. If you are referring to 'celebrity' comedians they are discovered by producers or directors for the type of work they become famous in. Comedy clubs in every major city host their shows all the time. Some just audition and get agents like any Hollywood celebrity. Many A list actors started out in comedy clubs. If you have the commitment, responsibility, and sense of humor you could make it. Being a genius doesn't hurt though. The average celebrity comedian could have more easily become a surgeon.
