It is dangerous to try to identify his sentiments with those of the characters in his plays, since these are very diverse and deciding that Falstaff is really Shakespeare and not Malvolio depends on our already knowing what he was like as a person.

Real actual evidence suggests that he was perhaps a little parsimonious, as he lent money out but was quick to sue if the debt was not repaid promptly. In addition, he was one of the very few people in the theatre world who did well financially from it. His efforts to secure a Coat of Ams for his father (which he would of course have inherited) suggests that he was a person who placed great weight on social status. He does not seem to have made many enemies, so would seem to have been a pleasant person to be with.
