Maurice Duruflé was an extremely versatile composer whose pieces were extremely varied in attributes. Evidently this changes with regard to what forces are used. Being a singer, I've been acquainted with Duruflé in a choral capacity. From my experience, I have found him to make extensive use of slow moving, quasi-drone if you will, lower parts to maintain a harmony whilst the higher parts have a rich melodic sound that switches frequently between homophony and polyphony.
