There are obviously no educational requirements required to be the star of a film so to be an extra should require about none. Probably the less education you have, the better. Also, I don't believe extras get paid very well either. The gratuity being in "the thrill of it all", I suppose. There are no educational requirements. All you have to do is register with an extras casting agency, and you can usually find one in the yellow pages. They'll often take your photo for you and then submit it to casting directors if you fit a certain part or when large groups are needed. Pay varies for extras, from $45-80 a day. A featured extra -- someone with no lines but who is recognizable on screen (say someone who bumps into Sandra Bullock in a scene) -- is paid more. You should know that production is a long and tedious process. The first few hours of ebing an extra might be fun, but in your 11th hour of sitting with a group of strangers, you could get very bored. Generally speaking, extras aren't stationed anywhere near principal actors or even to good craft service tables. Good luck.
