Julius Caesar had overwhelming ambition and when he achieved his goals he grew arrogant. He was also ruthless. On his way to the top he would use people for his own advancement. Of course many of the people Caesar bought off also advanced either financially or politically, but this manipulating of people for his own purposes could be considered by some to be admirable and to others despicable.
