I'm not sure what you mean by "an open-ended Shakespeare homework". If it means you can do any kind of project that has to do with Shakespeare, then clearly your strategy should be to play to your strengths. If you are a musician, set one of Shakespeare's song lyrics to music. If you like working with fabric, build a costume for a favourite character. If you are an artist, draw pictures of scenes from the plays. If you are more into research, use a concordance to study Shakespeare's word use. If you like to summarize things, summarize the plots of the plays.

If all you mean is that the questions you are being asked are real questions that require a real answer and not just yes-or-no questions, multiple choice, or fill-in-the-blank, then welcome to reality. In order to answer that kind of question, you need to know your subject and you need to know how to write. If you don't know these things, and have been trying to get by by parroting back the "right answer" to all those closed-ended questions, now is the time to start. Get out your book, start reading, start thinking about what you read.

Here's something you should consider. Closed-ended questions are easy to correct; someone with the IQ of a bran muffin can do it. Correcting answers to open-ended questions is hard, hard work. It takes time and energy to do it. Your teacher is apparently ready to spend that time and energy; you should do the same in preparing your answer.
