There is more to experience in a poem than just figuring out its meaning.
The prpose of the title in the poem is the representation of the age of the child or the main character with the age of eleven. It is all about of the experiences of a little boy who run and hides in a shed waiting for a gardener to come.
Archibald Lampman's poem is a poem about sadness and fire. It talks about the loss of life and the absence of understanding

Poem
It was written in 1941, while MacLeish was Librarian of Congress.
In the poem "The Child" by Archibald MacLeish, the child sees shapes such as the sun, the tree, the bird, the stream, the grass, the flower, the worm, the stone, the silence, the light, and the darkness. These shapes represent different aspects of nature and the world that the child observes and contemplates.
There are countless sources of imagery that MacLeish put in this poem. One of them is in the first stanza. The "globed fruit" is being compared to a poem. A fruit is juicy and tasteful. For the most part it is known around the world as being a fruit. MacLeish's poem implies that the more literal imagery you have the better your poem is. Which obviously doesn't make any sense. But I guess the poem doesn't really make much sense either =>

In the old world that MacLeish talks about, the tyrants of the world feared the free spirit of Americans. However, though the truths and the freedoms that gave us that spirit were still there, people became afraid and didn't use this freedom. Instead of using their freedom to help others, they had become like misers, having freedom but not doing anything with it.
The line taken from the poem 'Ars Poetica' by Archibald MacLeish signifies two lovers who are always found together, leaning towards each other affectionately ('leaning grasses' personified). The love of two lovers is also metaphorically expressed as the love of the pair of stars in the sky which revolve around each other. In context, the poet says that a poem may have any story behind it. It may be a story of grief or love, or it may just have no meaning but be beautiful as it is. The poem 'Ars Poetica', Latin for 'Art of Poetry', is a poem about how a good poem should be
The poet addresses a millionaire in this poem. The world is a place where we find sorrow of poverty and the beauty created by wealth go side by side. The poet points a finger at the millionaire and says that the millionaire and his kind are proud of their wealth earned by unnatural excessive desire. A millionaire's dream is to amass wealth and he has done it in a crooked way. The very course of the millionaire's life has turned evil.
