A fountain pen.
- Construction materials - A carton of basketballs from Bill Oliver - A suit from a store - Bill Oliver's fountain pen
One of Biff's old employers. Biff believes he was a salesman for Oliver a long time ago, but he quit because Oliver suspected that he stole a carton of basketballs. When he left, Biff claims that Oliver told him to come see him if he ever needed anything, and so years later, Biff expects that Oliver will loan him ten thousand dollars to start a sporting goods store. When Biff meets with him, Oliver doesn't even remember Biff because Biff was only a shipping clerk, and Biff, unable to control himself, steals Oliver's fountain pen and runs out of the office. It is this moment that makes him realize his whole life has been a fraud.
Biff is the son of Willy Loman, the salesman.
Willy talks to the absent Biff about his disappointment in Biff's unsteadiness. Biff hopped from job to job after high school and is concerned that he has "waste[d] his life." Source: Sparknotes
biff is well liked and handsome
Biff steals because from a young age, Biff was not taught the difference between right and wrong or allusion versus reality. He was taught that it was okay to steal as long as success comes from the stealing. For example, when Biff stole the football from his coach, his father simply laughed and said, "Sure, he's gotta practice with a regulation ball, doesn't he? Coach'll probably congratulate you on the initiative." Thus, Willy was showing Biff that it was okay to steal as long as success came from it. Another time, when Willy showed to Biff that it was okay to steal/cheat was when Bernard was trying to get Biff to study and Willy simply said "Bernard: Where is he? If he doesn't study! Willy: You'll give him the answers!" This is another incident when Willy shows Biff that it is okay to cheat if it leads to success. Biff also feels as though the world owes him something, so when the people around him do not give him what he's owed, he steals from them to punish them in a passive aggressive manor.
His father turned a blind eye to it. Willy thought he was encouraging Biff's initiative. In reality, he was teaching him that getting ahead was more important than how you got there.
