It is when there are a number of dancers ... for example three dancers...

Dancer number one performs an arm movement then a le movement whilst dancer 2 + 3 are still... one dancer one has performed the arm and leg movement once dancer two joins in on the second time round so now dancer 1 + 2 are performing the arm and leg gesture whilst dancer 3 is still. Once dancer 1 and 2 have performed the arm and leg gesture then all three perform the arm and leg gesture together!

It is a build up of layers.
