Marie has written "Karen" in 1952, the proceeds of which helped them move from Rye, NY to posh Larchmont, NY (albeit the property they bought was a "handyman special"). A sequel "With Love From Karen" came out in 1963, continuing Karen's story and with a special focus on informally adopted sister Gloria's love story. In between those books, Marie wrote "Wren" as a children's version of "Karen" and "Treasure on the Hill" which is focused on Jesus. She wrote a book about Newfoundlands called "Newf" which was published posthumously in 1992. (She also wanted to write about the tragic 1968 fire at Gloria & Russ' home which took the lives of their daughters plus the life of Little Marie's daughter who was visiting. However, Gloria vetoed this idea - possibly because the tragedy was too raw for them and/or she felt Big Marie was exploiting their tragedy to make a few dollars. In apparent retaliation for this, Big Marie disinherited Gloria - a disgrace after the many years of loving labor Gloria provided the family, especially Karen. This was an insult to injury since Jimmy & Big Marie never bothered to legalize their adoption of Gloria; Big Marie who at one time worked as a legal secretary & apparently wore the pants in the family, probably blew off this necessity. Obviously the statue of limitations has passed decades ago but am wondering if they claimed her as a dependent on their taxes when they really weren't entitled to do so before she started working full time. Problem is that since she wasn't legally adopted she couldn't challenge being disinherited - so at the end of the day, poor Gloria wasn't treated much better than an indentured servant, getting not much better than room & board. Sadly, Jimmy who survived Big Marie by a little over 2 years & who apparently was under her thumb plus suffering from Alzheimers' by that time failed to right this wrong & make provisions for Gloria either.)

In later years, Big Marie Killilea and Glo Killilea Lea experienced a significant estrangement, which is why neither is mentioned in the other's obituary. Their relationship became strained due to personal differences and conflicts that led to a lack of communication. This rift was notable, especially given their earlier close ties, indicating a profound change in their relationship dynamics over time.
