That he will kill his father and marry his mother are the horrible things that the oracle claims that Oedipus will do in "Oedipus Rex" by Sophocles (495 B.C.E. - 405 B.C.E.).
Specifically, it is the Delphic oracle that speaks to Oedipus of these horrible things. This oracle is located at Delphi and is considered the most famous and most respected oracle in ancient Greece. What the Delphic oracle says therefore tends to be taken seriously, and Oedipus does what any really frightened person does: He runs.
One thing that is true, is that Oedipus was a mythicalGreek king of Thebes.
the oracle predicts. It does not command. Oedipus runs away and does not discuss the matter with his father or the man he thinks is his father perhaps because he is afraid of himself that he is capable of doing such a thing. It is ignorance that leads to what he did. had he been able to talk about it he might have found out more - enough perhaps to change the future seen by the oracle. But the Oaracle says things in a way that confuses those who act to qickly without working thins out dramanoitallnot says : In the Story of Oedipus, the king and queen of Thebes have a son named Oedipus. But there is a prophecy which says that Oedipus will kill his father and marry his mother. To stop this happening, the king and queen get a slave to take their baby son and tie him up on a hill, but the slave takes pity on him and gives Oedipus to his master. When Oedipus has grown up, he hears the prophecy. And so, to prevent this from happening he decides to flee from the people who he thinks are his parents. When he is fleeing Thebes, he meets a man on the road and the get into an argument and Oedipus kills them man who is actually his really father, Laius, the king of Thebes. Oedipus then reaches the sphinx who is outside Thebes guarding it. Oedipus answers the riddle, gets it right, and as his reward gets to marry the queen of Thebes and become king. But by doing this, Oedipus does not know he is marrying his real mother! They have four children together as well, Polynices, Eteocles, Ismene and Antigone. But famine returns to Thebes and through this Oedipus hears of his true identity. The queen of Thebes is so shocked and disgusted that she kills herself, and Oedipus pierces his eyes with her golden brooches. So Oedipus is not made to marry his birth mother and kill his birth father, it just happens as the prophecy predicted.
Oedipus' impatience or Teiresias' reluctance or increasing old age may explain Teiresias' delay in "Oedipus Rex" by Sophocles (495 B.C.E. - 405 B.C.E.). Specifically, the audience does not know that Teiresias' arrival really is delayed. It is Theban King Oedipus who says that the blind prophet already should be at the palace as he speaks. But then he says the same thing previously about Creon's arrival time from consulting the Apolline oracle. If Oedipus is correct in the delay, it is possible that Teiresias procrastinates because he knows that what he is going to say will be considered treasonous by his king. It also may be possible that Teiresias' age is catching up with him. He is the advisor to all of Thebes' kings since the time of the city's founding four generations before the current. He is dead by the time of Oedipus' grandson Thersander so he is getting on in age.
In Oedipus the King, Oedipus feels ill at ease because he does not know the true story of who his parents were, or how he came to be king. Oedipus feels that when he knows these things he will be happy. The audience knows (and Jocasta suspects) that the knowledge will be disastrous for Oedipus (and it proves so). The dramatic irony is that Oedipus is destroyed by his quest for knowledge; even though seeking out knowledge is usually a good thing.
Killed his father and had 2 children with his mother. Both chidren were girls
A thing
Phone the Oracle institute is the best thing to do.
From our point of view, everything is clearer in hindsight, if you pardon the vision reference. But the point is that Oedipus could NOT have figured it out. It is the efforts of people to thwart the prophecies of the Oracles that bring about their inevitability. If Oedipus' parents could have completely ignored the Oracle, then maybe things would not have unfolded as they did. But their every action after hearing the Oracle would have been on some level motivated or influenced by the prophecy and their utter revulsion towards it. Would it have been possible for them to NEVER do a thing with the inner hope or conviction that this act will render the prophecy false?

In Oracle, functional dependency is when the value of one thing is completely determined by another thing. Functional dependency happens when one attribute determines another attribute in a relation.
