His retirement in 1613 or so. It is not certain to what extent he was out of work due to the closure of the theatres in 1593-1594, although he did publish his two long narrative poems at this time, when money must have been tight. However, he may have been acting still, in the theatres outside of the plague area, like Newington Butts. At that stage of his career, he was just a hired actor, and lived from job to job. Being out of work did not interrupt his career; it was a feature of it.
