"For God's sake, a pot of small ale" is the first line in the second section of the induction to The Taming of the Shrew, and is spoken by Christopher Sly, the drunk for whom the play will be played. "Small ale" is ale with a low alcoholic content. Small ale and small beer were more popular drinks than water, since the alcohol tended to sterilize dangerous bacteria, but was not enough to get you drunk. Sly is obviously placing an order with one of the servants hovering around, to bring him a beer.
Just as most writers, from the events and people around him. Some are based on historical events, and the romances, tragedies, comedies, etc., from people and the human condition. His plots were almost always taken from books he had read, but his characters drew on his experience.
They have a loose plot usually based around a daughter or ward needing to trick an elderly father or guardian (Pantaloon) in order to see her lover, in which she is helped by her tricky servant Columbine. The plays are usually comedies and the lovers are able to get together while Pantaloon is ridiculed. Other sub-plots with stock characters can also go on but the central plot is usually the love plot. Molière made frequent use of plots modelled on the Commedia Dell'Arte. The subplot of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew (the one about Bianca) is also based on this model.
"The Taming of the Shrew" by William Shakespeare was written in the late 16th century, around 1590-1594.

Well, that's kind of a broad question. In terms of mmo I know there's Shin Megumi Tensei Imagine that's based around taming monsters, which are "demons" in game, there's also Rappelz, however it's a bit limited in that field, and there's Monster Rancher. In terms of browser games, I don't know many at all, unless you also count the "breeding and growing" as taming.
