This is the ethnographer who documented the dance called Sampaguita from Ylaya an inland barangay of San Fernando, southeastern part of Cebu Province. Originally this was a dance movement interpreting a song about the delicate Cebu lass who is compared to the stems and petals of the "manol" (also called sampaguita - English -= Persian Jasmine). The movements of the dance suggests subtle flirtation. My informant Manang Clarita Natinga first performed the dance through the request of my anthropology student...
