=[http://usefulwiki.com/londontheatre London Theatre]= The Globe Theatre is quite new but getting famous already, and of course it's a reproduction of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre which was almost as famous as the Rose theatre. Famous London West End theatres are: Drury Lane, Duke of York’s, Garrick, Gielgud, London Coliseum, London Palladium, Prince of Wales etc
There are several famous Shakespearean theatres in England.
1. The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-Upon-Avon, is the home of the Royal Shakespeare Company or RSC, the most famous acting company in England. This theatre was originally built in 1879, but was destroyed by fire in 1926 and rebuilt in 1936. It has just recently been extensively renovated, reopening in 2011. The RSC has two other theatres in Stratford, the Swan and The Other Place, which form part of the same complex.
2. The Royal Theatre, Drury Lane was for many years the only legal theatre in England in which to watch Shakespeare. Drury Lane was originally built in 1663, but burned in 1672, was rebuilt in 1676, 1794 and after another fire, in 1812. This theatre saw Shakespeare played by Nell Gwyn, Macklin, Garrick, Betterton, Kemble, Sarah Siddons, Macready and Edmund Kean. The Theatre is now entirely given over to musical theatre.
3. The Old Vic, or Royal Victoria Hall as it was originally called, was built in 1818 and saw Shakespeare performed by Edmund Kean. However, it became famous as the home of the Old Vic Company, which featured such famous early 20th century legends as Sir John Gielgud, Sir Ralph Richardson and Lord Olivier. In 1963 the Old Vic Company became the National Theatre Company and in 1976 it moved to . . .
4. The National Theatre. Built in 1976, and home to a number of astonishing Shakespearean productions featuring all of the great Shakespearean performers of the late 20th century: Sir Anthony Hopkins, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, Ian Holm, Adrian Lester and many others.
5. The New Globe, built in 1997, a recreation of the Globe Theatre built in 1599 using period techniques.
The Globe Theatre. The Globe Theater is famous because most of the plays by William Shakespeare (1564-1616) were first performed there.
