the elizabethan audience were very unruly and raucous, and were known to talk back to actors and yell comments. they even threw food such as fruit and nuts at the characters they disliked. they booed bad actors off the stage too and there were many pick pockets among the audience too. however, now the audience follow theatrical etiquette and dont really talk a lot. audiences now clap appropriately and are not unruly and raucous.

Theatre goers then were more hardy. They were prepared to stand or sit on hard wooden seats all the way through a two to three hour play without an intermission. If you were in the standing room you were packed in with a bunch of people who had probably last had a bath six months before. Also there were no toilets.
