The meaning, as with many other poems, is to capture the picture and emotion of a moment in time and present it to the reader. In this case, the author describes the scents and tastes, the texture and the light of an adventure into the peas, eating them and enjoying the company and the togetherness... until she asks the question that she can't take back, and gets the answer that she didn't really want to know.
Hopefully, that feeling and idea comes across to the reader and they can relate, and maybe we will learn something from it in the same way we learn from observing others, but poems often don't teach us something or convey meaning in the same way as prose. The idea is to communicate that moment, not necessarily to change the way we think.
