Tom wants to be an adventurer instead of working in the warehouse for the rest of his life.

He is the only person earning in his family. His sister is a cripple. His father had abandoned his mother and the children long time ago and "skipped the light fantastic".

Although he resolves this dilemma by following in his father's footsteps yet he does not succeed completely. Now he faces a dilemma he possibly could not resolve because his guilt of having deserted his sister and mother will haunt him wherever he may go but he'll never have the courage to return to his past life.
