He was an actor before he started to write plays, and continued to be an actor afterwards. He had to be an actor to understand the mechanics of putting on plays, and why you can do some things but not others.

We do not have any information about any jobs he had before getting into the theatre business.

Nobody is really sure, because he wasn't famous for it. He must have started working in theatre before trying his hand at writing plays but we don't know for how long. Other than that, it's just guesswork. Stories about him being a poacher and holding people's horses are just romantic fiction.

We really don't have any idea. Presumably he was an actor first, because being an actor would help him understand how plays work. Other than that, this is the part of Shakespeare's life which is totally undocumented, so we cannot know.

Shakespeare's early life is shrouded in mystery. We know he was a playwrite, a poet, and earlier an occasional actor. It is said he made gloves, his father's job.

Shakespeare was probably an actor before he started writing. He had to have some familiarity with stagecraft to be able to write effectively. And we know he was an actor.

We don't know when Shakespeare started writing poetry; it may have been before he was involved with the theatre. But it is unlikely that he would have started writing plays before he understood the practical requirements of theatre, which he could only have learned by being an actor.

What did Shakespeare do before he became a writer?

William Shakespeare was always a writer. Before he became a playwright in London, he attended grammar school, got married and became a father. He was an actor before he started writing plays, since he had to understand the theatre before writing plays. We don't know when he started writing poetry. Before he was a professional writer, we assume that he must have started as an actor or at least a stage hand, since his first works we know of were plays, and you cannot write plays without understanding the practical problems of the theatre.

When and where did shakespeare start writing?

It is not known when he started. We can guess that he started writing plays after he moved to London and became involved in the theatre scene, sometime in his lost years 1585-1592. He might possibly have started writing poetry before he left Stratford.

Was William Shakespeare the oldest playwright?

No. Lots of people wrote plays before Shakespeare. The ancient Greeks were writing plays 2300 years ago. The Romans were writing them 2000 years ago. English playwriting developed from indigenous traditions of Miracle and Morality plays, influenced by the Roman plays of Seneca and Terence. The earliest Tudor plays (Ralph Roister Doister, Gammer Gurton's Needle, Gorboduc) were written when Shakespeare was a child. The most popular Tudor Play, Thomas Kyd's Spanish Tragedy, was written before Shakespeare had even started writing and continued to be popular for decades thereafter.

What style of writing did shakespeare write in?

Shakespeare wrote in poetry, even when he was writing plays.
