Do you predict that Puerto Rico will become a state of the us?

Taking the history, Puerto Rico had the change to become a state from the 1950s to the 1970s. Alaska and Hawaii got it and Puerto Rico could have got it also. Now these days, it is clear that statehood in never to come to Puerto Rico. The current governor (Fortuño) which is a statehood party member, has made it even harder to come to an agreement with the US about this because of the mess he has done in his administration.

Can you see Puerto Rico from Dominican Republic?

Is it technically possible? Yes. Can it be done. Probably not, and definitely not from the beach. To have a chance to see Puerto Rico from the Dominican Republic one must be a MINIMUM of 60 feet above sea level to see the highest mountain tops on Puerto Rico's western shores near Rincón 80 miles away. It is much more likely to be able to see Isla Mona (Mona Island) which is a Puerto Rican Island that lies halfway between Hispañola and the island of Puerto Rico.

What Year Did Puerto Rico Get Its Independence?

Puerto Rico is NOT independent. It's a bit complicated but here it goes: Puerto Rico was "discovered" and colonized by Spain in 1493. Spain governed Puerto Rico for well over 300 years when a group of Puertorricans fought for its independence from Spain in 1868 but Spain did not recognized Puerto Rico's autonomy until 1897. After recognizing Puerto Rico's autonomy, Spain also gave Puerto Rico to the United States as a result of them loosing the Spanish-American War; this under the Treaty of Paris. (If it were a property, you might say that the island was "sold" to two different owners at the same time.) At the time the US did not recognize Puerto Rico's autonomy and in some way Puertorricans though that this was probably a step towards independence or statehood. Yet here we are, more than 100 years later in 2010 and Puerto Rico is still owned by the US. Now it is called the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. They currently receive all the benefits of Statehood without having to pay taxes to the country. Pretty sweet deal. Becoming a state would entail their willingness to contribute to the income base of the United States. This is something that should have been done decades ago. They became independent of Spain in 1898 and are now a US Territory.

Is freshman ninth grade in Puerto Rico?

Yes, freshman is the 9th grade in Puerto Rico. The confusion comes from the fact that in Puerto Rico 9th grade is in junior high public schools, but this was done because in the 1950's there weren't many high schools. The government made the elementary schools last until 6th grade and the junior high schools last until 9th grade to enable the students to continue their education without being affected by the shortage of schools. It remained that way ever since.
