Piers Plowman, the narrative poem attributed to William Langland, was written originally in Middle English, a language used between the late 11th and late 15th centuries.

Piers Plowman is considered one of the great early English works, along with Sir Gawain and the Green Knightand Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. It is allegorical, much like Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress.

Langland's authorship of this piece has been debated, but as of this day, he remains known as the author.
