Water locks allow ships to move from one level of water to another through canals.
Locks on canals are used as a means of effectively going up or down hill. Water will always find its own level, therefore letting water flow into a system of locks allows gradients to be navigated by the vessels using the waterway. The number of locks will depend on how flat or otherwise the land needed to be passed through!

First, the boat comes in to the first chamber. Water is released into the first chamber through the locks, causing the boat to rise up on the increasing water level. Once the water in both chambers is equal, the locks are opened. The boat sails through the locks and out of the second chamber. Finally, the locks are closed again, and the back gate of the first chamber is opened. Water levels are now back as they started, and the locks are ready to transport another boat.

There are many ways one can unfreeze their car locks. One can unfreeze their car locks by using a product such a a de-icing spray or pouring boiling water on them.
I have found the only way is th look at the bottom of the door where the door seal is, there are several plastic tabs, if you gently push on one it opens and the water starts to drain. I have not found any real drainage holes yet though!
