The most famous of Shakespeare's theaters was The Globe theater, but plays were also performed in London's The Great Theater, The Rose, Blackfriars Theater. Plays were also performed along the English countryside such as Newington Butts.

Shakespeare was an actor in London for over twenty years, and during that time saw many theatres come and go. As a charter member of the Lord Chamberlain's Men, he would have played in all the theatres that company played: the Theatre, the Curtain, the First Globe and the Blackfriars, as well as the Rose for one season. Shakespeare was also acting before 1594 when the company was formed, but we don't know with which company, so he could have played any of the other playhouses around at that time. Newington Butts in particular is a good guess.

Those were the purpose-built theatres. But the company also performed on makeshift stages at court, in the Inns of Court, in noblemens' houses, and in various country towns when they went on tour, which they did in 1596, for example.

Just about any theatre in the English speaking world has seen a Shakespeare play at some time or another. The first theatres to see them were as far as we know The Rose Theatre and Newington Butts Theatre. Other early theatres at which Shakespeare's plays were performed included the Theatre, the Curtain, the first and second Globes, and the Blackfriars. And of course the plays were often performed at venues other than dedicated theatres, such as rooms at court.

During his lifetime, his plays were performed at several dedicated theatres, including the Theatre, Curtain, Rose, Newington Butts, Globe and Blackfriars. They were also performed in private homes, public halls, royal palaces, law school auditoriums, on board ships, and innyards, also during his lifetime.
