Shakespeare was a playwright, not a sociologist. He did not need to tell his audience what life was like in the 17th century because they already knew.

His plays do incidentally and unintentionally provide information about life back then because that is when they were written, but are much less useful to a modern sociologist than they plays of his contemporaries, such as Jonson or Dekker.
