All legal acting companies were required to have a patron. The patron was a noble or royal person who lent his or her name to the company, and who was nominally their employer. The actors could then claim not to be unemployed bums but the servants of an important person, and were exempt from prosecution as vagrants.
The companies were therefore called something like "The Duke of York's Servants" or "The Duke of York's Men"
Shakespeare started off his career just being a hired actor. We are not really sure what company or companies he worked for, but one of them may have been the company whose patron was Henry Herbert, 2nd Earl of Pembroke. There is good reason to suppose that in 1592 he was working with the company named after Ferdinando Stanley, Lord Strange. In 1594 he became a partner in a company whose patron was Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon. He died in 1596 and the patronage was taken up by his son, George Carey, 2nd Baron Hunsdon. On the death of Queen Elizabeth I, the patronage was taken over by the new king, James I. Because the Careys, both father and son, held the post of Lord Chamberlain, the company was known (while they were patrons and held the post) as the Lord Chamberlain's Men, which is how they are remembered today.

William Shakespeare only had one son, Hamnet. Hamnet had a twin sister called Judith and they were named after some of Shakespeare's friends. Hamnet died of unknown causes aged eleven. His name is similar to the main character in one of Shakespeares' plays, Hamlet, which is about death. Many believe Hamnet's death inspired Hamlet.
