Burbage' company (which Shakespeare worked for) began as the Lord Chamberlain's Men, and later became the Kings Men. They were the most successful players' company in Elizabethan London.

The next most successful company was Edward Alleyn's Admiral's Men. Christopher Marlowe worked for them before his murder, and they are also the company we know most of (since their manager/ banker - Philip Henslowe - kept a diary).
