James Burbage (son of well know actor Richard Burbage) obtained permission and the lease to begin construction in 1576 in Shoreditch, London. It was used by The lord chamberlains men (shakespeares acting company)from 1594-1956.If you would like to get technical another theater called "The Curtain" began construction the same year in the same town, however it was not officially opened until a year after The Theater.
