Until she gets to play the lead role in Faust because the Italian diva Carlotta had quit the show because she things didn't go her way. During the after party, the phantom reveals himself to her, and she figures out who he truly is. She falls in love with both the phantom and her childhood sweetheart, Raoul, and ends up going with Raoul. In Gaston Leroux's Phantom of the Opera, the Phantom dies of broken heart. In Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera both the stage and the movie, the Phantom disappears from the Paris Opera House.
