The only information the text gives us was that Lammas Day was coming up in about a fortnight. The play therefore takes place late in July. The play does not say in what year it takes place, so that is up to the director.
During the Renaissance. So somewhere between the 14th to the 17th century. Since the play does not specify any time setting it can be and has been set at almost any time, but the use of swords can seem anachronistic if the setting is too modern.
The text does not state the year. The story Shakespeare used to base the play on was an old one, over a hundred years old at the time Shakespeare got hold of it, and based on an even older story which was a thousand years old. Some of the details of an older time got carried into Shakespeare's play. But at the same time, he added details from his own era. Shakespeare did not care about anachronisms, or whether there was any historical accuracy about what he wrote.
For that reason, it is futile to try to fix a time setting for the play. Every director should select whatever setting suits his view of the play. The play works if set in modern Brazil, Victorian Britain, Feudal Japan, Abbasid Arabia, or the Wild West in America.
I don't know that's why i asked you guys! freaking dumbasses.
