Shakespeare wrote all of his known works, as far as we can tell, between 1588 and 1614. He slowed down in the last two or three years of writing, but before that his rate of writing was steady.

Although plays from all parts of Shakespeare's middle and late period have become famous, his most famous tragedies Hamlet, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Othello and King Lear, the History Henry V, and the comedies Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It, Twelfth Night, All's Well That Ends Well and Measure for Measure all were probably composed in the five years 1599-1604. This would appear to be Shakespeare's most prolific and brilliant period.
