We are not sure that he was. Some scholars have speculated that Shakespeare's dad may have been too poor to pay his school fees, and so Shakespeare did not complete grammar school. But we do not have any school records at all for Shakespeare so we cannot confirm any of this. We only assume he went to school at all because he seems to have had familiarity with the curriculum.

Shakespeare went to the Stratford Grammar School (called King Edward VI School nowadays, then called the King's New School) at around age 6 or 7. There may have been some rudimentary instruction in letters, divinity etc. at a "Dame School", a kind of home school run by local women.
In school perhaps. But Shakespeare was not forced to write after he left school. Most actors were not also playwrights. But since Shakespeare could write and was very good at it, and was paid to do it, why not?
