The date of William Shakespeare's first writing is not known.

The first known reference to his work is a criticism published in London in 1592 of the play which is now known as Henry VI part 3.

Many scholars believe that this was the first play which he wrote and that it may have been written in 1591.

Shakespeare wrote over 30 plays from 1589 to 1613. His most prolific year was probably 1594 when he wrote most or all of over 5 plays.
