It is really not difficult to visualise Drama as a result of the way people live and become creative about the most mundane as well as the most impressive, significant and exciting incidents or moments in life. Human communities pick times and happenings to commemorate. While this was a simple communal activity, it drew on people's creativity to bring life and meaning to ritual and ceremony. Naturally the next time it happens the ceremonial acts are improved on or made more significant in view of the hosts and their supporters or helpers. Since the whole/ most of the community are part of what takes place it gets more innovations, improvements, stylisations which will continue to grow as outside influences or new innovations in economies, new political ideas etc. bringing their influence. These simple beginnings are the ones which dramtic and theatrical works borrow from.
Drama evolved out of religious observances during the Middle Ages. Beginning in the 10th and 11th centuries churches began putting on skits to illustrate the lives and deeds of saints. These were called miracle plays. Later on they developed what were called mystery plays. These dramatised Bible stories. They also developed passion to perform plays which depicted the life of Christ. Beginning in the 13th century these began to be performed outside of churches as part of festivals or by travelling companies. As time went on the scripts began to include various non-religious elements and slapstick comedy which made them incresingly unpopular with church authorities. Beginning in the 15th century morality plays were developed. These were allegorical stories which taught moral lessons. They evolved out of the mystery and miracle plays but were never performed in churches, instead always by secular acting troups. From these gradually evolved professional theater companies and secular drama.
