William Shakespeare died on April 23, 1616. It was St. George's day. It was the same date as Miguel de Cervantes died, although because they used a different calendar in Spain, it wasn't the same day. Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, the Peruvian author, also died on April 23, 1616.

April 23 was the birthday of the 12th Earl of Oxford and the day on which the 10th Earl of Oxford died, a couple of hundred years before Shakespeare did. By popular tradition, it was also Shakespeare's own birthday, although there is not actually any hard evidence of this.
