Shakespeare's business partners owned a theatre (called The Theatre) north of London. Although they owned the building, they did not own the land under it. They had a number of legal disputes with their landlord as a result of which they took down the entire theatre (without advising the landlord) and transported it across the river to Southwark, just south of the City of London across the Thames. There they rebuilt it using the same materials and called the new theatre The Globe. The landlord who had been hoping to seize the building to satisfy his claims was out of luck.
