Where did the introduction scene to the Andy Griffith show take place?

On a set in Universal. I was schocked to find that out, but I went on the Universal Studios tour, and there was Mayberry... Well, what was left of it anyways. The buildings in Mayberry are just props, and there is no inside

I have no idea where it was filmed, however I live in Mount Airy where it was supposivly based on, however, there is NO SUCH TOWN as Mayberry, North Carolina. Mayberry is a FICTIONAL town. It does NOT exist.

The lake used for the opening of the show and throughout the run of the series is actually Franklin Canyon Lake, at the time known as the Upper Franklin Canyon Reservoir, located at 2600 Franklin Canyon Drive in Beverly Hills, California. This location would also be used for many other productions including Combat, Bonanza, Star Trek, How the West Was Won, and the movie, On Golden Pond.
