ROBERTSON Melvin Roscoe "Roxy", 75, died June 12, 1994 in OKC. Roxy Robertson was a lifelong resident of central Oklahoma. He was born in Choctaw on February 9, 1919 to Melvin R. and Varvel Queenan Robertson. He graduated from Classen High School in 1937 and attended Pasadena Junior College and the University of Southern California before being called to federal service with the 45th Division in September, 1940. He was an Army Air Corps Cadet, graduating with Class 4303. Roxy was a distinguished pilot during World War II and flew the Hump in the China-Burma-India Theater. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service during the war. Roxy spent his civilian career in aviation, having traveled the world for 38 years as a pilot. He retired a commercial airline pilot in 1978. Roxy was married for 46 years to Bette Jo (Jody) Johnston. They had two daughters, Roxanne and Nancy, both of Oklahoma City. Four granddaughters, Sarah, Cary Anne, Courtney and Leslie; and his son-in-law, Rod Warner also shared his life in his later years. In addition to his family, Roxy is survived by his youngest brother, Dale. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and his brother, Chet. Roxy was a good, thoughtful and loving husband and father. Along with his family, he had many close friends across the globe, all of whom knew him to be a loyal, fun-loving and caring person. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 1994 at St. John's Episcopal Church located at 5201 N. Brookline in OKC. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Martin Nature Center or the St. John's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.
