Act 3, scene 5
JULIET
Wilt thou be gone? it is not yet near day:
It was the nightingale, and not the lark,
That pierced the fearful hollow of thine ear;
Nightly she sings on yon pomegranate-tree:
Believe me, love, it was the nightingale

Juliet thinks, or merely tries to convince Romeo, that she heard the nightingale. If she had heard the nightingale, it would still be night time and Romeo wouldn't have to leave, but because it was the lark and that sounds during the day (early morning) that means Romeo has to leave.

When Romeo and Juliet are in bed on their wedding night they hear a bird. Romeo says that it is the lark, a bird that begins its song in the morning, and Juliet tries to convince him it is the nightingale, and thus still the night, so that he will remain with her in bed for longer.

There are two birds mentioned in this particular scene. The one referred to by the question is the nightingale, as she wants more time with her Romeo and the nightingale's song says it is still night. Then theyt alk about the lark, a bird that sings in the early morning hours around sunrise. If they are to not get caught, Romeo need s the cover of darkness to slip away and she isn't done with him, so they hope it is the nightingale, though it does eventually turn out to be the lark, signally thwir one night together is over.

I think you are talking about Act 3 Scene 5. Romeo and Juliet are not entering a bedroom. They are leaving it. They have been sleeping together all night, because it is their wedding night. However, Romeo must leave at dawn or he will be arrested. Juliet hears the lark singing, a bird which sings at dawn. She wishes it was a nightingale which sings in the middle of the night, but it isn't, it's a lark, and Romeo has to go.

It's not a real argument. They know it was the lark. But Juliet wishes it was the nightingale so the night would not be over, and she says so. But she doesn't believe it. However when Romeo says that he will go along with the charade she realizes that the result will be that Romeo will be taken and killed. At that point she stops pretending and faces the truth.

They hear the lark singing which means it was morning. Juliet pretends that it is the nightingale (which would make it night), but she knows as Romeo does, that it was a lark.
