Shakespeare was part owner of two theatres: The Globe and The Blackfriars. They were closed by the government during times of plague.

All of the theatres were closed down in 1642 by the Puritan government because they thought plays had a bad effect on people. But of course by that time Shakespeare had been dead for 26 years and he had no interest in any theatres.
