Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th and 16th centuries before being exported to France by Catherine de Medici. The name of the inventor, if there was a single inventor, is lost to history. In the 17th century, King Louis XIV enjoyed the dancing called "ballet" so much that he hired his own dancing teacher and founded the first dancing academy in Paris 1661.France and Italy were the centers of ballet until the 1890's when French choreographer Marius Petipa moved to Russia. There he met the famous composer Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (pronounced Chy-kof-skee). Together they produced some of the most difficult and beautiful ballets that are still performed today such as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty. In 1909, Sergi Diaghilev formed a company of Russian dancers, composers and designers called the Ballets Russes. This dance troupe had a new abstract style and often didn't have a story with the dance. The great George Balanchine was part of this troupe. Later, Balanchine came to the United States and started the New York City Ballet, Paul Mejia, the choreographer and Fort Worth Dallas Ballet Artistic Director, studied under Balanchine. What you are viewing today is a direct descendent from ballet's earliest and finest roots. Ballet has grown and changed and the famous dances have been passed down from one famous foot to another!
The first type of ballet started during the Renaissance time, in Italy, around the 1400's as court ballet. The French adopted ballet and made further development in the late 1400's. French ballet had minimum plot because of rich costumes, scenery, and elaborate effects. Court ballets reached their ending point in 1643-1715 because of King Louis XIV staring in his ballet as the Sun King. In 1661 King Louis XIV established a professional dance registration for what he called "Dancing Masters". That was the start of pro- dancers. The first female dancers started in 1681. They wore hoop skirts, headdress, and tons of make-up. Men wore a knee length hoopskirt, or called a tonnlet. Romantic ballet started in Paris in 1832. Other countries adopted this type dance such as the United States, Russia, and more. In the 1920's and 30's modern dance appeared based on historical ballet. Now we have great variety in this sport.
It is difficult to answer this question because what we know as "ballet" goes back to the Italian Renaissance; it then spread to France and other European countries. Thus, it may have had a number of founders and patrons in its formative stages. What we do know is that classical ballet was formalized during the reign of Louis XIV: he encouraged the creation of the first dance company, l'Acad
Ballet is a large part of the history of dancing. Ballet sets out to tell stories through movement by following strict, classical rules that were established around 1661 in France. Ballet honors grace, stories, histories, movement and self-discipline of the dancer.
Don't you mean, "In what language was the systemised rules for Ballet written; for the Royal Academy of Dance in 1661?"
No one. Royal Academy of Art was founded by King George III in 1768. However some of the 34 founding members included artists and architects such as Sir Joshua Reynolds and Sir William Chambers. Two women, Angelica Kauffmann and Mary Moser were also founding members but they do not appear in the portrait of the 34 members directly. Instead they appear as portraits on the wall.
