According to the Shakespearean play, Macbeth [d. August 15, 1057] was beheaded. He lost his life during a sword fight with Macduff. Macduff mortally wounded Macbeth. He then cut off his head to show to the combined English and Scottish forces under the subsequent King Malcolm III [d. November 13, 1093]. Additionally, the Thane of Cawdor may have been beheaded. He was convicted of treachery to his king and his country. The punishment was execution. The means was unspecified. So it may have been by hanging, or by beheading.
In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the following people get killed: the traitor MacDonwald ("unseamed from his nave to his chaps" in a battle), the traitor Cawdor (executed), King Duncan (stabbed by Macbeth), Duncan's two grooms (stabbed by Macbeth), Banquo (ambushed by three murderers hired by Macbeth), Lady MacDuff and her son (done in by more hired murderers), the rest of the Macduff household except Macduff himself (ditto), young Siward (killed by Macbeth in a fight), and Macbeth (killed by Macduff in a fight).

Yes, Macbeth eventually gets caught for killing King Duncan, not the Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth's guilt and descent into tyranny lead to his downfall. He is defeated in battle and ultimately killed by Macduff.

He suffered from hallucinations, sleeplessness. He got himself killed by Macduff for he got mad and insane and made people suspicious by his actions and hallucinations.
Mainly Macbeth, but I suppose his power-hungry wife as well.
