Harry Houdini was a famous magician who was known for his trick of being chained underwater in a closed container, called the water torture cell. He was also famous for other things such as jumping off bridges while handcuffed, and even getting out of a strait jacket while hanging upside down from a multiple story building. He died not because of drowning during one of his tricks (which is a common theory), but because of a different performance. He had fractured his ankle, and was unable to perform his fanatical escapes, so he put on a normal magician show. He was showing a muscle trick and asked a college student to punch him in the stomach. What he didn't know was that he had appendicitis, and when the student punched him, his appendix exploded, killing him within days of his performance.
