The music was composed by Schönberg, and the lyrics were written by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, with an English-language libretto by Herbert Kretzmer.

Les Miserables remained at the Imperial until it closed on May 18th, 2003. The show made a return engagement on Broadway three years later, opening at the Broadhurst Theatre on November 9, 2006. The production ran until January 6, 2008.
