Macbeth began to believe the witch because they did say he will be Thane of Cawdor. Then, Ross was executed and King Ducan gave the title to Macbeth. Therefore the witches were right about him becoming Thane of Cawdor.

You could probably find a more accurate answer somewhere else but I had this same question and this is what I came up with...

(The Tragedy of Macbeth-Scene IV): Macbeth is anxious to find the witches because his need for power and fear of it being threatened makes him nervous. Although he wants to keep is position as king, the witches prophecies have all come true but have also caused him trouble so far.

In Act 1 Scene 1, the three witches planned a collision course with friends and fellow Generals Macbeth [c. 1014-August 15, 1057] and Banquo. In Scene 3, they carried their plan out. But in Act 3 Scene 4, it was Macbeth who planned to seek out the three witches' company. In Act 4 Scene 1, he carried his plan out. The reason for the visit was the answer to two questions. How secure was the reign of Macbeth and his Lady [b. c. 1015]? And what was the chance of Banquo's family line claiming the throne of Scotland.

The witches wanted to meet with Macbeth to ruin him. The very first scene in the very first act of the Shakespearean play showed the three witches planning to meet Macbeth [c. 1014-August 15, 1057]. The third scene showed the witches actually meeting with Macbeth. They called him by the title that he already held, as Thane of Glamis. Then they called him by powerful, wealthy titles that he hadn't dared to dream of holding: Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland. They disappeared just before the noble Scotsmen Angus and Ross appeared to let Macbeth know of his receipt of the title and possessions of the disgraced Thane of Cawdor. Banquo tried to warn Macbeth against the witches' motives. He said that evil forces such as the three witches were luring Macbeth to his own downfall [Lines 123-126]. That evil intent came through in Act 3 Scene 6, when Hecate encouraged her three witchly employees to give Macbeth a false sense of security in his ill-gotten title as King of Scotland. And so in Act 4 Scene 1, the three witches presented Macbeth with three apparitions who were most misleading in their warnings.
