Teasdale wrote There Will Be Rest only a few months before she committed suicide in her New York apartment in 1933. She wrote this poem to calm herself and basically remind herself that no matter how bad her life was she will receive peace in her next life. She was severely depressed and poetry helped her relieve some of the stress put on her by her rough life. ~I will make this world of my devising out of a dream in my lonely mind~ she is content with living in her own little world because in her world her life is as fair as she wants it. She just wanted a little peace, and in the end, that's exactly what she got.
